She's got the whole world in her hands

A few weeks ago, I had the fortune of connecting with Nikki Lee Kurt aka @palmmapping, via email and after realizing we were both based in NYC, we planned to meet for coffee. I was really looking forward to meeting Nikki. I was totally unfamiliar with palm mapping and live drawing which she also practices and eager to learn more.

I'm not sure if Mercury had started its retrograde yet, but the day we were to meet was anything but my day. Truth be told, I almost cancelled as I was feeling so off. I am SO glad that I didn't. All of my reservations and stress melted away when I finally plopped down at the table where Nikki was seated. You know when you are in the presence of someone who is so genuine and kind that it just makes you happy? If not, then I'm so sorry and if so, then you know exactly why I was like props to you past Leah for not postponing.

We talked about everything from careers to family and Nikki educated me on the practices of live drawing and palm mapping. You can learn more on her website, but to give a very brief overview, live drawing is giving visual representation to what's happening before you in real time, be that an event or a discussion. Palm mapping, as the name implies, is similar to palm reading, but you get a drawing highlighting the different regions of your hand with the characteristics they represent and how things in your life relate to these spots.

While we all have certain traits and tendencies, what Nikki highlighted, and what for me was so important, was remembering that I still get to shape what I do and how I do it. Literally staring down at my characteristics got me thinking about how I approach life, where I could change things, and, as I learned from Nikki, to see what I have inside that I have yet to really make use of. (Your non-dominant hand shows what you were born with and your dominant hand shows how you are currently operating so if you have a lot of X in your non-dominant hand, it means you have a huge store of X just waiting for you!)

As you can see in the picture above, I have an unquenchable thirst for information, need to create structure for myself, have a large store of creativity, and love spreading love and recognizing people for good work/doing something that made a difference for me. While I have a strong Saturn and privilege directness, I know how to meet people on their level and am very diplomatic. I can't say I was surprised by any of this, and I doubt that my close friends or family members would be either, but it was important to remind myself of these characteristics and writing this now, I am looking over at my map and feeling all the reflective feels. It was a beautiful afternoon and I hope that Nikki and I will continue to be in touch for years to come.

What do you think your hand would tell you?
