Written in the Stars

Disclaimer: Cloud 9 Living reached out to me and covered the cost of my experience. This review is my own, honest opinion.

From “he loves me, he loves me not,” to games of MASH (have I just dated myself?), to reading horoscopes, I, and I’m betting many of you, have been looking to outside sources to tell me what the future holds since I was young, but it wasn’t until recently that I explored the world of professional, personalized astrology. I’ve always been interested in learning more about what the stars hold for me and, say what you will, I often find myself nodding along in agreement with my horoscope so when Cloud 9 Living, a company that gifts experiences, (more info on Cloud 9 Living at the end of the post) reached out to me about trying one of their experiences, I chose a phone in astrology reading.

True story: I won this at a benefit and a girl who also wanted it said I "ruined her night." Sorry for the photo quality, we were in a darkish event space.

The booking process was very simple. I was emailed a certificate (think when you receive a gift card electronically) which prompted me to create an account on their site, and from there was able to choose up to three dates and specify which hour(s) I was available. About two days later I got an email confirming the time for my appointment. Next I was contacted by an experience coordinator to let me know that the astrologer, Steven Stuckey, would be contacting me and to reach out if I needed anything else. I also received an email from Cloud 9 which gave me Steven’s name and number so I could contact him if need be. Prior to the reading, I had a quick call with Steven, to confirm the time of my reading along with the date, location, and time of my birth and answer some general questions- ex: was I looking for guidance on any particular topic.

I won’t go into the specifics of the reading since, as you can imagine, it was personal. That said, it was pretty mind-blowing. Steven spoke about traits and experiences that were eerily spot on. I pinky swear promise all he knew about me were my name, where and when I was born, and that I currently live in New York. That’s it. Yes, you can probably find some information about me from some internet stalking, but there were things he brought up that no Google search would ever yield. Since this was my first foray into astrology readings, I don’t know what other astrologers are like but Steven was kind, happy to answer any questions, and made the whole experience very comfortable. I think it would be easy to feel embarrassment, particularly when touching on the topics of relationships and certain personal traits of which we might not be proud, but I never felt anything remotely resembling shame or embarrassment and though it was via phone, I felt like Steven was sitting right next to me. I can’t wait to listen to the recording, Steven records his sessions, when it arrives and revisit what he told me (and prove to my mom how accurate it was).

According to the ancient system Steven uses I'm actually a Scorpio, but my moon is in Sag. so I'm still a Sag girl.

So what do I do with what I learned? Keep being me. I will continue looking for new ways to grow and challenge myself, trust my gut, and never sell myself short. According to the planets, I can have a big life, but just because the stars are aligned, so to speak, it is still up to me to make it happen; this is true for everyone. We don’t get to choose the circumstances we’re placed in, but how we react to them is entirely up to us. I truly believe that everyone has the ability to achieve great things.

More on Cloud 9 Living:

“Cloud 9 Living is an Experience Gift company.” In other words, rather than getting a material object for someone, or yourself, Cloud 9 Living allows you to give someone an experience. Their offerings include city tours, dining and scenic cruises, action/adventure oriented classes, and of course astrology readings, to name a few. Cloud 9 Living’s mission of giving memories rather than things really resonates with me. For the past several years, rather than partake in the traditional Mother’s Day brunch or Father’s Day barbeque, my parents and I have done things. The memories we have made and adventures we’ve been on are so much better than any over-priced omelet or hot dog (not that my dad or I actually eat hot dogs) could ever be.
